Sorry if it has already been mentioned, but a/ A block of solid black (1 sq inch is fine). b/ A test for a problem that sometimes occurs in Canon SX engines. The problem being that a big black chunk of stuff at the top of the page can be slightly echoed 4 inched down, where the drum wasnt completely discharged (cleaned?). More easily seen on a shaded area. c/ A large circle. Not so much for the circle, but to have a look at the curves. Large, slow curves have distinct bumps on them at 300dpi. (By large, I mean 4 or 5 inches diameter.) Havnt tested it with HP's RET, so this may prove helpful in reducing this. On a printer that does 600 x 300 dpi, the vertical curves look much smoother than the horizontal curves. d/ Not much white on the page. Wherever there is going to be blank areas, put a grey shade instead. This is useful for testing patchy printing. Areas of print that are faded. Too often seen with Canon CX engines and cheap refilled toner cartridges. Speaking of CX engines, how many people have noticed the misalignment as one goes down the page? Vertical lines start off straight up and down, but as you near the bottom, the line veers to the left. :-) Thats '85 technology for ya. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Article 13251 of sci.electronics.repair: Path: cs.utk.edu!news.msfc.nasa.gov!bcm!cs.utexas.edu!uwm.edu!msunews!harbinger.cc.monash.edu.au!yarrina.connect.com.au!news.netconnect.com.au!ppp001.pnc.com.au!user From: sensei@pnc.com.au (Tim Tuck) Newsgroups: sci.electronics.repair,sci.electronics,comp.periphs.printers Subject: Re: Effects of frequency on laser printer Date: Fri, 28 Jul 1995 21:52:12 +1000 Organization: Sensei Consulting Pty Ltd Lines: 35 Distribution: inet Message-ID: References: <3v3s2p$ja8@rs10.tcs.tulane.edu> NNTP-Posting-Host: ppp001.pnc.com.au X-Newsreader: Yet Another NewsWatcher 2.0b27.4 Xref: cs.utk.edu sci.electronics.repair:13251 sci.electronics:140450 comp.periphs.printers:29468 In article , krueger@die.upm.es (Martin Krueger) wrote: > In article <3v3s2p$ja8@rs10.tcs.tulane.edu>, shalom@rs5.tcs.tulane.edu > (Hapu Wijesundera) wrote: > > >Hi: > >A friend of mine has just bought a Brother HL-645 laser printer designed > >for regular US voltage(110V, 60Hz). It won't work! - I used to service laser printers and it was a pain in the but when somebody bought a printer from the USA and wanted to run it here in Australia ( we have 240v & 50Hz). The only switching PSU is for the CPU stuff, the fuser assembly has a 700 watt halogen bulb in it and a few other things that need replacing for operation on 240V, we also had to replace a few other boards that I believe had problems with the 50hz AC signal. Double check with the manaufacturers service dept., the should be able to tell you if you can use a BIG stepdown tranny. cheers Tim _____________________________________________________________________________ Timothy Tuck, Sensei Consulting - Corporate Macintosh Specialists P.O.
